At last, a government!

1 Timothy 2

1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Aside from party politics. Aside from local results. Aside from personalities. Aside from the media. Aside from our own persuasions. Aside from deals and power brokering.

I have heard plenty of gossip and waffle in the news over the last few days.

It is time to pray.

I agree entirely that we need to pray for the Government and all in authority! I am leading intercessions at my church on Sunday morning. As it's an Anglican church, the intercessions have to follow a set format, following the concerns prescribed in the Book of Common Worship. This means our prayers ALWAYS inculde a prayer for those in authority. Preparing prayers in advance is sometimes restricting for a Charismatic Christian like me- but I have been known to leave my notes aside and say a prayer that I feel God wants me to say- sometimes as a result of something the vicar has said in his sermon.
I have taken as my theme this Sunday "Uncertainty", as it also -links with the time when we think about Jesus' Ascension and how the disciples must have faced uncertainty. But we are reminded of Jesus words about being with us "to the very end of the age" - and his promise to send the Holy Spirit. Strangely, as I prayed, what came into my mind was the words from Revelation "Behold I make all things new"- and I am praying that, when the dust settles, whatever the uncertainty, we can pray that promise; that something new and better will take shape and there will be a new spirit of service and cooperation.
